📖 History & Science of the Stretch

Known as "Raising One Hand to Regulate the Stomach and Spleen," this is the third movement of the Ba Duan Jin (Eight Brocades).

"By separating Heaven and Earth, the central meridians are stretched, allowing the internal organs to breathe and function without obstruction."

Modern Problem: Prolonged sitting causes a "crumpled" torso. This physical compression slows down the digestive system and reduces the efficiency of the stomach and spleen. It also leads to lateral stiffness in the spine.

The Adaptation: This movement creates a horizontal stretch that pulls the rib cage away from the pelvis. This "decompression" acts as a internal massage for the digestive organs while restoring lateral mobility to the vertebrae.

Pedagogical Notice: Visualizing the "separation" of your hands strengthens the neurological path to your digestive organs, improving the efficacy of the stretch through the mind-body connection.
